Going Back to the
Roots of True Nursing
Inspired by the legacy of Florence Nightingale, the Lady with the Lamp, Florence at Home is a return to what nursing was always meant to be: compassionate, holistic, and deeply human. Florence’s lamp became more than a source of light in the dark; it symbolised the presence, comfort, and dignity she offered to those in her care. At Florence at Home, we carry that same light forward.
Over time, the gentle art of nursing has too often been overshadowed by the rush of modern healthcare systems. The simple acts of presence, listening, nurturing, and supporting the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—have been pushed aside.
We are bringing this back. Guided by Nightingale’s timeless philosophy, we believe nursing is not just about treatment, but about restoring dignity, offering rest, and shining kindness into people’s lives.
Our private nursing service is designed to feel personal and nurturing, rekindling the heart of what Florence first envisioned: care that uplifts, connects, and brings light into the home.

The Heart Behind
Florence at Home
Florence at Home was founded by Fiona Antony, a Registered Nurse who has lived and worked in Portland for more than 16 years. With over a decade of experience in Community Palliative Care and District Nursing, Fiona has walked alongside countless families during some of life’s most challenging moments.
Her expertise grew through post-graduate study in Palliative Care, where she worked as a Palliative Nurse Consultant with Portland District Health. She is also completing a Certificate in Geriatric Medicine, keeping her knowledge current in the evolving aged care space.
In 2025, Fiona established Florence at Home after recognising a significant unmet need for specialist in-home care, particularly after hours, in rural communities like Portland and the Western District. She saw families struggling to navigate fragmented services, and wanted to provide a service that made things simpler, safer, and more compassionate.
Fiona’s philosophy is that care should be person-centred and family-focused. While her nursing may not change the course of illness, it can ensure that people live with comfort, dignity, and respect in the place they know best — their home. She also believes that supporting the family is just as important as caring for the individual, creating space for connection and reassurance during difficult times.

Our Mission & Vision
At Florence at Home, our mission is to bring care back to its truest form: supporting people to remain in their own homes, surrounded by dignity, safety, and compassion, for as long as possible.
We believe nursing is not only about tending to clinical needs, but about listening, respecting, and honouring the wishes of each person and their family. It is care that recognises the whole person — body, mind, and spirit — and creates space for comfort, connection, and reassurance.
Our vision is simple yet profound: to create a service where every individual feels valued, every family feels supported, and every home can be a place of light, rest, and dignity during life’s most tender moments.
